Peover Heath Ride
Sunday was the the Stockport Community Cycling Club Peover Heath ride. This was a longer ride than we often do, being about 45 miles. Andy was the ride leader and I was the back leader for the day. The ride started by the green in Davenport.
There were 15 of us when we set off. One guy (Bruce) met us in Styal and cycled with us as far as Wilmslow before heading off again. Another guy (Neil) missed us at the start but followed our route and met up with us near Mobberley.
From Davenport we headed via Bramhall, through Total Fitness then across the A34 to near the shops at Handforth Dean.
We then went through Handforth, picked up Bruce then went past Styal Prison before skirted round Wilmslow by crossing crossing the river Bollin.
We had paused outside St Wildrid’s Church, Mobberley when Neil caught up with us.
We then went towards Knutsford, stopping briefly in the park to admire the ducks.
The route took us out through Pickmere, crossing the A556 near where it crosses the M6. We then cycled on through Lostock Gralam and Over Peover.
We arrived at the Park Gate Inn for our lunch. Although we had been there a few days early to book in, the place was closed when we arrived! We had cycled about 30 miles at this point, so were feeling rather hungry!
Having weighed up a few options, we decided to go to the Dog Inn for lunch instead. When we got there, they were fully booked inside but said that they could do lunch for us but we would have to site outside. It didn’t seem too cold so we stayed. Unfortunately the sun went in whilst we were waiting and by the time we left, we were really rather cold.
The route back after lunch, took us through Marthall, Alderley Edge and towards Woodford before heading back to the start point again.
Overall the ride was about 45 miles long and fairly enjoyable. The lunch stop was certainly memorable, although the food at the Dog Inn was good, there were a few hiccups as a couple of people got their food quite a long time after everyone else and they also ran out of cups! However considering that we were not booked in there, they managed to feed all of us despite being full themselves.
