Mid Wales Day 7 – Chester to Stockport

Mid Wales Day 7 – Chester to Stockport

Day 6 had been the longest day of our Mid Wales tour so far. Today would be more of the same, not too hilly, and our longest day of the tour, We would cycling home, from Chester to Stockport.

It was another lovely sunny day too, the summer heatwave now really beginning to take hold.

Our day began by seeking out a cafe where we could eat breakfast.

We found Marmalade, and enjoyed a pleasant and relaxing breakfast.

Food in our bellies, we got on and bikes and went looking for Local Route 70, the Cheshire Cycleway. We then followed this along the Shropshire Union Canal out of the city centre.

Continuing to follow Local Route 70 (which we would do so for the best part of the day), we left then canal at Christleton.

Crossing over the Roman Bridges at Hockenhull Platts. Apart from crossing over them previously on the Cheshire Cycleway, we had also done so a few years back on our day with Artist on a Bike.

From here we cycled on towards Tarvin.

Then Willington.

By the time we reached the Cotebrook Shire Horse Centre for a brew I was pooped, and we were still only a quarter of the way into the ride! Looking back, I think I was struggling with heat exhaustion. Whatever it was, it made a long day of cycling seem even longer.

Brew downed, we returned to the journey home and cycled on towards Oulton Park and Marton.

Then we followed the Whitegate Way towards Winsford.

Followed by crossing over the River Weaver.

The track brought us into Moulton, home to some interesting inhabitants.

Our route then joined NCN Route 573 and we followed this for the next few miles.

After eight or nine miles of country lanes, and it now being mid-afternoon, we were now getting hungry. We arrived at The Crown Inn at Swan Green, near to Goostrey.

Unfortunately there were no vegetarian or gluten-free choices on the lunchtime menu, and when we asked for a cheese and bacon sandwich without the bacon we were informed there was no cheese! So tuna sandwich it was, and for Sarah, a bowl of salad. That said, the food was tasty and the drinks were nice and cold.

For our final section of the route we were now on familiar lanes.

We were held up by the passing traffic just before Wilmslow, however …

At the far end of The Carrs in Wilmslow our Mid Wales cycle tour was completed.

Today, we had cycled nearly 40 miles to this point. While we had covered approximately 225 miles in total during our Mid Wales cycle tour.

Then we headed off to our own homes.
