Marton

Marton

A few years ago, Neil put together a Stockport Community Cycling Club cycle ride to Eaton. This Marton ride route was a modified version of that, and with a new lunch stop.

It began in the lay-by in front of the Deanwater Hotel at Woodford.

Immediately, there was the cheeky little hill up to Lees Lane.

After a few miles, we turned off towards Prestbury.

Everyone is still feeling fresh and smiling. The ride has just got going!

We dropped into Prestbury.

Followed by a climb that took us out of the village.

This took us towards Upton Priory and Broken Cross.

From there we cycled on towards Gawsworth.

Upon leaving Gawsworth we joined NCN Route 55 briefly.

We left NCN Route 55 when we turned off onto Cowbrook Lane.

This is a pleasant back lane that we haven’t used too often.  It drops down to Cow Brook.

However, there is then a stiff climb back up to the A523!

Briefly, we turned on to the A523, but then turned off at the next junction and cycled on towards Rodeheath.

We turned into Pexall Road.

Then, after crossing Congleton Road we cycled along Cocksmoss Lane.

The far end of the lane brought us into Marton.

Our lunch stop was at The Old Barn Kitchen & Coffee Lounge on the other Congleton Road!

This proved an excellent choice. It was formerly a cycling type cafe anyway, and although it has now broadened its horizons and has expanded in size, it still has cyclists very much at heart. Importantly, they had gluten-free options too.

Re-fuelled, we then set off up the other Congleton Road again, before turning into Davenport Lane as we cycled towards Siddington.

At Siddington, we turned on to Pexhill Road and steadily climbed up to the junction with Bearhurst Lane.

Here, we joined local cycle route 70 which took us towards Henbury.

We followed cycle route 70 for quite a while, only leaving it when we turned into Oak Road near Hare Hill.

This took us back through Mottram St Andrew.

Finally, we returned through the edge of Wilmslow.

Another great day of cycling had seen us clocking up nearly 31 miles. You can view our Marton 2019 route below:
