Market Weighton – SCCC Hull Club Weekend

Market Weighton – SCCC Hull Club Weekend

Following an enjoyable cycle ride over the Humber Bridge, the second day of the Stockport Community Cycling Club Hull weekend gave members attending the chance to choose between two cycle rides. The longer ride was to Market Weighton.

Andy Sh was the ride leader for this one, and I was the back-leader.

It was fine sunny day as we set off through Cottingham and towards Skidby. The traffic here was manic!

Thankfully, as we left the town the traffic thinned out and the ride became more enjoyable.

From Skidby we cycled through Little Weighton and Ripplingham.

We then continued to steadily climbed as we turned and picked up NCN Route 164. This also forms the Yorkshire Wolds Way.

There were some fantastic panoramic views out over South Yorkshire as we dropped down to South Newbald.

A section of the Yorkshire Wolds Way took us off-road for a few miles. Thankfully, it wasn’t as tough as it initially appeared.

There were more superb views as we dropped down into a lovely valley following the Wilberforce Way. This took us into Market Weighton.

Lunch was at the Snack Shack in Market Weighton. We filled their outdoor seating area, and they filled our bellies with food.

After lunch, we headed out through Goodmanham.

We then turned again and picked up NCN Route 66 as we cycled towards Cherry Burton.

We continued following NCN Route 66 as we headed for Beverley.

We might have stopped in Beverley for a while, but time was getting on. We did manage a brief peek inside Beverley Minster, however.

Finally, another off-road track brought us back to the outskirts of Cottingham.

From Cottingham it was then back to the start at Hull University.

We had cycled 44 miles. This had been a cycle ride around some new roads, and everyone seemed to have enjoyed themselves. It is certainly an area we can recommend for cycling.
