Lymm and High Legh
Neil had put together this route for our latest COVID-19 lockdown cycle ride. Starting from Bramhall, it would take us into Cheshire to Lymm and High Legh.
It was an overcast but generally fine Sunday morning that saw five of us set off along the A555, the Airport Relief Road.
We followed the A555 for four miles.
Then turned off and made our way around the perimeter of Manchester Airport.
After navigating our way around the edge of Wythenshawe we cycled through Hale village.
Towards Dunham Massey.
And Dunham Town.
Just before Warburton, we turned towards Lymm.
However, we were only skirting the edges of Lymm.
So soon, we were heading away, and towards High Legh.
A little further on we joined local cycle network route 70, the Cheshire Cycleway. We are hoping to organise a tour of the Cheshire Cycleway later this year.
Continuing to follow route 70 we eventually arrived at Bucklow Hill.
We decided to take a break here and grab a coffee from the garage on the corner of Chester Road.
After a short rest we continued on through Rostherne.
And then on through Ashley.
We left route 70 at Ashley, and crossed over into Back Lane.
There’s a stiff little climb a further along these lanes as you drop down into the River Bollin valley and then back out the other side.
We then joined local cycle route 85, the Airport Orbital Cycleway, and cycled through the airport tunnels.
Before turning off and following the path up and alongside the airport perimeter.
Finally, we made our way through Styal and Handforth.
Before rejoining the A555 and back to the start.
This had been a fine 30 mile cycle ride around Cheshire. The lanes were mostly familiar, but it didn’t matter, we were just out and enjoying cycling.
