Lymm 2022 – A new beginning
This Lymm 2022 cycle ride represented the first time Stockport Community Cycling Club members were meeting together following the sad death of our remarkable club leader, Jim Court.
It was kind of apt that Gill and I were leading the two rides. We joined the club on the same ride, we are two of the longer serving members, and for us both, the contribution of Jim has significantly impacted our lives.
It was a fine Saturday morning when we met at Broadheath. Sarah and I were leading the second group.
Setting off from the car park by the Trans Pennine Trail off Seamons Road we began by turning into Black Moss Road.
We then turned into School Lane until we reached Dunham Town. Here we turned right into Back Lane.
We would cross over the Bridgewater Canal a couple of times, and weave our way down the lanes around Dunham Massey.
We would also criss-cross over Dunham Road a few times too.
About five miles into the ride, we reached the outskirts of Lymm.
This was still just the edges though. We still had a few more miles of fine country lanes to cycle along before we reached urban areas.
For a short while, we joined the Trans Pennine Trail path.
Eventually, we reached the town of Lymm.
And just as quickly, we were out the other side.
Nine or so miles into the ride, we took a break. There were some benches for us to sit on along the side of St Peter’s Church in the village of Oughtrington.
After a short break, we had just made our way out of the church grounds when one of our members suffered a puncture.
Indeed, we had cycled only a short distance further, when the same club members suffered a second puncture.
Eventually, we were back on our way again.
Now heading towards Agden and Little Bollington.
Then crossing over the River Bollin using the narrow bridge at the end of Park Lane, and into Dunham Massey Park.
With a few adjustments, even Martyn’s monster bicycle managed to navigate the bridge …
Leaving Dunham Massey Park grounds we now followed the lanes around Dunham Massey.
This took us along Oldfield Lane.
Then Oldfield Road.
Before finally arriving back at the car park on Seamons Road.
This is always one of our favourite rides, and Lymm 2022 had lived up to its expectations. It was a poignant yet memorable ride given the circumstances. Even the weather had been in our favour. We are sure Jim was looking down and smiling upon us.
