Knutsford Revisited
This Knutsford Revisited route was essentially a repeat of a cycle ride to Knutsford, with a few variations, that Sarah and I had completed in May of last years during the early stages of the coronavirus lockdown.
It had been somewhat warmer last May! This year Sarah and I met Andy S and Neil on a cool Sunday morning at the Ladybridge Road end of Ladybrook Cycleway.
After cycling along Ladybrook valley, at the other end of the cycleway, we joined NCN Route 558 and made our way up Brookfield Road. Then through Brookfield Park.
Continuing to follow NCN Route 558, we weaved our way through Heald Green by cycling up St Annes Road North followed by Brown Lane.
After crossing Styal Road, we joined Airport Orbital Cycleway, Local Cycle Route 85, and headed up Simonsway and towards Wythenshawe.
Just after the Peel Hall tram stop, however, we turned left onto a path that cuts through Woodhouse Park.
We passed through Culmere Park.
After leaving Culmere Park we joined the Black Path. A new little route for us.
Then, after turning into Hilary Road we made our way through Painswick Park.
On the other side of the park, we rejoined the Airport Orbital Cycleway at Thorley Lane and cycled around the perimeter of the Manchester Airport complex.
Leaving the Airport Orbital Cycleway at Mill Lane we now cycled on towards Knutsford.
At Ashley, we joined NCN Route 70, the Cheshire Cycleway.
We continued to follow the Cheshire Cycleway when it turned off Ashley Road and into Birkenheath Lane followed by Marsh Lane.
Eventually, our route returned to Ashley Road as it skirted the side of Tatton Park and then Mereheath Lane. This brought us to Knutsford.
In Knutsford, we were aiming to head down Hillside Road. To overcome the one-way system we walked through a lovely little garden called Wallwood.
From Hillside Road we turned into Drury Lane.
This brought us to Knutsford Park.
The coffee van that is normally at the park wasn’t there, so we continued on. We followed Mobberley Road towards Mobberley.
After turning into Smith Lane, we then turned into Slade Lane and crossed over Mobberley Brook.
We rejoined the Cheshire Cycleway once again when entering Hobcroft Lane, and then weaved our way through the Mobberley Lanes.
Eventually, we turned into Burleyhurst Lane. This took us through Morley Green.
For a change, we took a different route back to the start. This meant turning into Nansmoss Lane.
Then, after crossing Altrincham Road, we entered the Quarry Bank Mill grounds at Styal.
It was an interesting route, but the steps meant quite a bit of walking. Still, Quarry Bank Mill is a fine building to take in as you walk past it.
Back on our bikes, at the end of Holt Lane, we turned into Station Road.
Then Clay Lane as we skirted Handforth.
Finally, we weaved our way back through the familiar streets of Heald Green and Cheadle Hulme, before rejoining the Ladybrook Cycleway and back to the start.
Our Knutsford Revisited route had contained a mix of familiar lanes alongside a few sections we were less familiar with. We had cycled nearly 29 miles and enjoyed another Sunday cycle ride. It’s always good to get out on the bike!
