Knott End – SCCC Lancaster Club Weekend

Knott End – SCCC Lancaster Club Weekend

Finally, the Stockport Community Cycling Club weekend at Lancaster was upon us. We had recced this shorter ride out to Knott End back in August, but could we remember the route a month later?

Sarah and I were leading the two groups. Each containing nearly twenty riders, following the same route, setting off an hour apart. It meant I waited an hour or so to start my ride. While Sarah waited an hour at the end of her ride until mine had finished in order to take me to Lancaster.

Since we were leading the rides it presented challenges in taking photos. So this post contains a combination of images taken during the two rides.

We left the Pilling Amenity Area on Backsands Lane then headed up Lancaster Road.

In doing so, we joined local network route 90.

After cycling through Scronkey, we were soon cycling along the quiet Lancashire lanes.

We turned into Clay Gap Lane.

Then Sower Carr Lane and Staynall Lane.

There was a little bit of a hill here

At the end of the lane we got our first view of the River Wyre estuary. We had a magical view of the former ICI works on the other bank..

Turning into Burrow’s Lane we made our way alongside the estuary for a little while.

Before turning towards Knott End.

Unfortunately, when taking the Corcas Lane track the second group were following in the footsteps of a farmer cutting his hedges. What followed was four (yes, four!) punctures.

Punctures fixed, we arrived in Knott End.

Our lunch stop was at the Knott End Cafe.

Once again the service wa excellent and food hearty. All a cyclist could ask for really.

Maybe Ian is thinking of cycling to Fleetwood!

After lunch we made our way back along the coastal path.

Here, there were some excellent views out over the Irish Sea.

Finally, we turned inland and back towards Pilling along Fluke Hall Lane and then Backsands Lane.

These rides had provided an excellent start to our club weekend. Everyone were now looking forward to the cycle rides tomorrow. In the meantime it was time to head off to our accommodation and prepare for the evening meal.
