Higher Kinnerton
The third cycle ride of our short cycling weekend didn’t start off as planned. Sarah’s bike had been worryingly creaking, suggesting a crack in the frame. The previous evening had consisted of talk about having to replace her bike – three weeks before our upcoming Hebridean Way tour. So, not wanting to take any chances with the bike, Sarah decided not to cycle today, and instead went for a walk. In the meantime, the guys went for a short cycle ride to Higher Kinnerton.
It was a lovely sunny morning when we set off through the back roads of Chester.
We headed back to through Handbridge.
Then, before reaching the city centre, took a right turn into Eaton Road and headed towards Eccleston.
At Eccleston, we turned into Rake Lane.
Then headed on towards the villages of Belgrave, Cuckoo’s Nest and Pulford. At Pulford, we crossed the border into Wales.
The next village after this was Lavister.
Here, we turned into Lavister Lane, then Cobbler’s Lane and crossed the railway line.
After which, we weaved our way through a myriad of country lanes.
Before arriving at Higher Kinnerton.
Here, we found the lovely quirky little Walter’s Coffee House. We sat outside, soaked up the sun, and enjoyed a fine snack and a cup of tea.
For the final section of our cycle ride, we joined Main Road and headed back through Lower Kinnerton.
And finally, back into England.
We cycled just over 19 miles. Sometimes, a short relaxing little cycle ride taking in some quiet country lanes, is just what the mind and body need!
(Note: We found out after returning home from Chester that Sarah’s bike wasn’t terminal. It was just the crankshaft complaining, and a bit of oil did the trick. Phew!)
