Halls Route
The Halls Route has become a regular event on the Stockport Community Cycling Club calendar. Sadly Sarah hasn’t been feeling too well for the last few days and wasn’t up to tackling this ride. A shame since she has never cycled the Halls Route …yet.
A healthy group (pun intended) of club members met at the bottom of Vernon Park. Leaving the park we set off in the direction of Bredbury and passed the first of Stockport’s halls – Bredbury Hall.
We cycled along the Goyt Valley as we made our way towards Chadkirk. In doing so we passed Goyt Hall, the oldest of Stockport’s halls.
At the other end of the path at Otterspool is the Stockport Hydro.
From here we turned and made our way to Offerton and up through the ‘Bongs’.
Crossing Marple Road, just off the main road we passed the next hall – Offerton Hall.
Then we cycled on to Bramhall and down Tenement Lane.
From here we cycled towards Cheadle Heath
Through Brookfields Park.
Then on to the coffee stop at The Vinery in Bruntwood Park the location of our next hall, Bruntwood Hall.
The menu was simple and ideal for a group of cyclists. The service proved quick, and the cheese baguette and pot of tea I ordered was fine. We also learned that today was Alan’s birthday, so an impromptu ‘Happy Birthday to you’ was sung on the cafe veranda. Alan then proceeded to hand out pieces of birthday cake.
After the coffee break our route continued through Cheadle (passing the Cheadle Drill Hall??) and towards Burnage. There we picked up the Trans Pennine Trail (TPT) running alongside the River Mersey. Sarah and I will be cycling this as part of TPT cycle tour later this year. Why not read our recent post – TPT itinerary – and find out more?
We crossed over the A6 at Heaton Chapel.
Next we cycled through Reddish Vale
Finally we cycled through the Brinnington tunnels and then back down towards the start at Vernon Park.
We had cycled almost twenty miles. It was another interesting route around Stockport. Sometimes it is amazing what you can find on your doorstep if you care to step out and have a look.
