Edinburgh – I Do Like To Be Beside The Sea!
Having spent the morning looking around in Edinburgh, we drove out towards Musselburgh to a place called Fisherrow and parked at The Harbour.
We followed the signs for the John Muir Way which is a coastal path which goes all the way to Dunglass, which was way further than we were going that afternoon! We actually were going from Fisherrow to Cockenzie.
We passed the air cadets base. Behind there was a large concrete arrow on the ground. There was a plaque which stated “This concrete arrow was renovated by cadets of 297 Squadron, ATC in recognition of its original purpose of training bomber crews by aligning their aircraft up with a target in the Firth of Forth”.
The path then follows the coastline to Prestonpans.
By the time we had reached Cockenzie (having walked around Edinburgh that morning) we decided to catch the local bus back to Fisherrow. We had walked 7.75 miles from Fisherrow to where we caught the bus.
By the time we got back to the car it was starting to go dark.
Following all our walking, we were rather hungry! We were staying near The Haymarket that night and found a fantastic Indian restaurant called Omar Khayyam where we had the best curry that I have ever eaten!!
Do try it if you are ever in the area. As we walked back to our hotel, I spotted a bagpipes shop – I had never noticed one before, so had to include it!
