Easter Sunday in Southport
Easter Weekend had begun with plenty of activity for Sarah and I. On Friday we had participated in the Salford 10k, recced the forthcoming Stockport Community Cycling Club ride to Culcheth that Sarah will be leading. On the Saturday we began the day by volunteering at the Bramhall Parkrun and then running 15 miles as our last longer training before the Greater Manchester marathon in a few weeks time.
So by Sunday morning we were ready for a rest! We started the day by attending the Stockport Family Church Easter service, and then decided upon a trip to Southport. This is always one of our favourite places to visit. For me personally it is where some of my family grew up, and so I have many memories of the town.
We began by visiting a cafe (obviously!) in one of Southport’s Victorian shopping arcades.
We just wanted a bit of a stroll since Sarah was struggling with sore legs after yesterdays long run so headed down to the boating lake. For most of the North West of England this Sunday was nice and sunny …but not here in Southport.
There was a sea mist that gave the whole town an eerie feeling …
We decided on a walk down Southport Pier.
We then went back along the boating lake and watched the speed boat upset the calm!
Now, it’s a long time since I have played crazy golf. I had forgotten how much fun it can be!
Sarah was her usual mix of brilliance mixed with shots that cleared the next green, whilst I played the steady game.
By now it was early evening and time for some chips!
Then there was a final walk up Lord Street and back to the car.
It had been a great day. A chance to just stroll and have some fun. We are already looking forward to the next time we visit Southport.
