E2E Day 17 – Lochranza to Oban
E2E Day 17. Today was the first day of cycling with the extra 5 riders. It was a long ride of 63 miles, made harder because of the heat and at times the head winds.
We started by taking the little ferry from Lochranza to Claonaig, then the cycling started.
At the top of the first hill we stopped to take a picture. Andy P took his phone out of his jersey pocket and something fluttered away in the wind. He then realised that it was actually two £20 notes! One stopped on the grass verge so was easy to retrieve, the other blew into the field, the opposite side of a barbed wire fence. This was the money that Bruce had given us to cover our lunches – it took four of us to retrieve it. Quite a comedy to watch! Finally we were underway again.
Having gone along the coast for a while on the main road, we turned off and went along the canal for a while, which was gorgeous!
We then moved back onto the main road but that section seemed much quieter.
We stayed at Oban Youth Hostel.
We arrived quite late in the day, probably about 7:30
Tomorrow is a much shorter ride.
