Dunkeld

Dunkeld

After the End-to-End you may be forgiven for thinking that that would be the end of our travels for 2012. And you would be wrong.

In the forests around Dunkeld

So having been introduced to the wonders of cycling and cycle touring, and then walking, and in the near future camping (…and in fact the whole of the outdoors in general) we have also discovered how easy it is to visit new places and to enjoy those new experiences at such a reasonable cost. In fact given the opportunity there really is no better place to enjoy a break than in the United Kingdom. Sarah and I have been fortunate enough recently to enjoy such opportunities. So much so that while we have spent our weekends out cycling and walking we haven”t had enough time to update our blog! So over the next week or so I am hopefully going to catch up on the places we have been to.

Dunkeld is a small town north of Perth. Setting off, we followed one of the local cycle networks. Pretty soon however we were presented with the opportunity to pick-up an alternative path which seemed to head up in to the forests but still run parallel with our original planned route. Always worth an adventure eh?! 🙂

Essentially our route ran parallel with the A9, which itself follows the River Tay, passing above villages such as Dowally and Kindallachan. We then turned left on to the A827, crossed the river and came back on the other side of the river following NCN Route 7.

Upon arriving back into Dunkeld we were greeted with the fantastic surprise of Dunkeld Cathedral. In fact we had parked the car in the car park leading to the cathedral and hadn’t been aware!

What a great way to finish a cycle ride!
