Hebridean Way

Hebridean Way

Sarah and I have completed some iconic and memorable cycle tours in the past, End-to-End (LEJOG), End-to-End (JOGLE), and the Pennine Cycleway immediately come to mind. This Hebridean Way island-hopping cycling tour, which we will be undertaking in spring 2022, is sure to join them. Our team of four adventurous cyclists for this will be Andy P, Sarah, Andy S and Mike.

Sustrans describe The Hebridean Way as ‘a true adventure, a wild and remote cycle route which takes in the awe-inspiring landscapes of the islands off the west coast of Scotland.’

The Hebridean Way itself is a 184-mile on-road route. However, we also cycled some extra miles. For, once we add in the cycling to the start of the route from Castlebay, plus the journey back to Stornoway after completing the route, and then a few more when cycling on the mainland to Inverness, our total mileage rose to approx 280 miles.

One of the ultimate get-away-from-it-all rides the route runs the full length of the Outer Hebrides, over remote moorland, past wide, white beaches and over memorable hills. We took in the islands of Vatersay, Barra, Eriskay, South Uist, Benbecula, Grimsay, North Uist, Berneray, Harris, and Lewis. Along the way, we also passed highlights such as Luskentyre Sands and Calanais Standing Stones. Not to mention Kisimul Castle, Traigh Mhor Beach, Harris Tweed and Isle of Harris Distillers.

The Team

Ten islands, six causeways, four ferries, one mountain range … one trip of a lifetime.
