Cheshire Cycleway Day 4 – Whitchurch to Astbury
After enjoying a relaxing evening in Whitchurch, we started with an equally relaxing morning. Cheshire Cycleway Day 4 would take us to Astbury. The route for the day looked fairly straightforward. Thankfully, the good weather was continuing.
So having enjoyed a leisurely cuppa at Benjamin’s and watched the world go by, it was time to leave say goodbye to Nicholl and leave Whitchurch.
Our route began by climbing back over the hill towards Marbury.
Soon we were back on route and cycling through Marbury village.
Our route then brought us up Gauntons Bank where we took a quick breather.
Next, we continued on towards Wrenbury.
For a short while, we followed the Llangollen branch of the Shropshire Union canal.
Crossing the canal we cycled through Wrenbury.
Followed by Aston.
In Audlem, we changed direction and headed towards Congleton.
First, however, we stopped off at Dagfields Craft & Antiques Centre. We found they had a cafe there, and though we weren’t feeling hungry enough for a lunch, we sat outside and snack and a cuppa.
Back on the road, we cycled on towards Wybunbury.
Then through Hough.
Just after Oakhanger, we followed a little-used path that took us over the M6 – twice.
Next, we skirted the edge of Alsager.
Before finding ourselves in familiar territory, at one end of the Salt Line at Hassall Green. It is a starting point for a popular Stockport Community Cycling Club.
We were briefly held up by the local traffic.
This was followed by cycling along the lanes around Smallwood towards our destination at Astbury.
Finally, we arrived at the Egerton Arms Country Inn in Astbury, a village just outside Congleton.
Cheshire Cycleway Day 4 had provided a relatively straightforward 35 miles of cycling from Whitchurch to Astbury. In the evening, we decided to stay at the inn and eat there. It provided an excellent meal.
