Welsh Borders Day 5 – Welshpool to Ruabon

Welsh Borders Day 5 – Welshpool to Ruabon

It had been a hot finish to Welsh Borders Day 4. The heat would continue throughout the day on Welsh Border Day 5. We would also re-route again and venture back into England. We began the day by joining the A490 and making our way in the direction of Llansantfraidd-ym-Mechain. After leaving the A490 we followed the valley of the River Vyrnwy. Welsh Borders Day 2 – Monmouth to Clyro

Welsh Borders Day 2 – Monmouth to Clyro

It was a cool, though thankfully, dry morning when we cycled along Monmouth high street. Leaving the town we crossed the River Monnow via Monnow Gate and Bridge. The gate and bridge were built in the 13th century. It is, apparently, the…

Welsh Borders Day 1 – Newport to Chepstow to Monmouth

Welsh Borders Day 1 – Newport to Chepstow to Monmouth

Part 1 – The journey to Newport Finally! Welsh Borders Day 1 represented the first day of a cycling tour we originally planned to undertake a few years ago. Of course, on that occasion coronavirus lockdown intervened. First, however, we had to get to the start of the route – Chepstow. Half of the cycling team (Andy S, Andy S, Sarah and me) travelled down the day before we were setting off. We had planned to board a train to…
