Coast and Castles South Day 7 – Edinburgh to Dunbar
Coast and Castles South Day 7. This morning was a little sad as there was a parting of the ways. Three of the team of seven were finishing their trip in Edinburgh and four of us will continue back to Berwick upon Tweed over the next couple of days. It was rather strange with their just being the four of us as we cycled along!
To start our day we headed over to Edinburgh Castle.
They were setting up a stadium ready for some concerts and the military Tattoo.
Initially our route took us out of Edinburgh in the reverse of the way we had arrived the day before. As we went past the University campus, there was a pipe band practising, so we stopped to watch for a while.
Our route took us to the coast at Musselburgh.
The route that was planned took us away from the coast but we decided to make a change and stick to the coast road instead.
We called in at a cafe which was part of a farm shop for lunch. What a great place it was – we sat outside in the sunshine and enjoyed home made soup and sandwiches.
We then went through North Berwick, where there was a cross in memory of Catherine Watson.
We passed Tantallon Castle.
Finally arriving in Dunbar.
Having checked into our hotel (there was a bit of an issue as they had ‘lost’ the booking for one of our rooms), we walked into Dunbar and had a very nice Chinese meal.
After dinner we took a stroll down to the harbour, which was very interesting. There were the remains of a castle, a battery and a nesting site for kitty wakes.
Our cycle ride was 42 miles today and again we had good weather – it was a little more cloudy than previous days but still good!
