Coast and Castles South Day 4 – Lindisfarne to Yetholm
Coast and Castles South Day 4. After yesterdays cycle to Lindisfarne today, provided us with another glorious sunny day and our first entry into Scotland. Our destination, following a slight booking mix up, would be Yetholm.
Interestingly, today’s ride would prove to be as much about bridges as the coast and the castles.
Leaving Beal, NCN Route 1 follows a coastal path through Lindisfarne Nature Reserve.
Unfortunately Neil managed to pick up an injury due to coming off worse after picking a fight with a cattle grid. Thankfully his injuries were minor and he was able to continue.
Some of the views along the coast were stunning.
We cycled in to Berwick-Upon-Tweed.
We decided to have a late morning cuppa at YHA Berwick. Some of us will be staying there on the last night of the trip.
Upon leaving Berwick we crossed the border into Scotland for the first time on the trip. We would be crossing the border quite a few times during the day!
We had lunch at Norham.
There is a castle at Norham, we decided to visit it. It is, now owned by English Heritage but was originally built as a border stronghold by the Bishop of Durham.
Next we passed through Coldstream. We stopped off at a local park for an ice-cream.
Then we headed south and back in to England.
Our evening stay is at the Plough Hotel which is situated in a lovely little village called Yetholm.
Another 44 miles cycled. We are now over half way. Tomorrow we head further along the Scottish Borders for Innerleithen.
