Bollington and Prestbury

Bollington and Prestbury

Before the COVID pandemic lockdown changed life for everyone, we had planned this weekend to be cycling on our annual summer tour. We should have been cycling along the Welsh Borders. However, we have had to postpone that trip until next year. Instead, today would see us cycling with friends out to Bollington, Prestbury and Wilmslow.

It was an overcast morning when we met in Bramhall.

Sadly, the days of quiet roads with relatively few cars on the road are long gone. It was fantastic while it lasted.

We began by heading up Mill Lane.

Then up Norbury Hollow Road.

We weaved our way through Higher Poynton.

Eventually, we picked up Shrigley Road and our first major climb of the day. This took us up around the back of Lyme Park.

There were some fine views out over Stockport and Manchester (and beyond).

After a little breather, we continued along Shrigley Road.

This eventually brought us into Pott Shrigley.

At the far end of Shrigley Road is Blaze Hill. Thankfully, we were weren’t climbing this today. Instead, we were heading down into Bollington.

Briefly, we joined the Cheshire Cycleway, and soon we were heading out of Bollington.

Next stop was Prestbury.

We decided to have a brief stop here at Henry’s Cafe.

After the drink stop, we continued along local network route 70 and headed out of Prestbury towards Over Alderley.

However, at the corner of Hare Hill, we turned into Oak Road towards Mottram St Andrew.

A little further on we turned into Alderley Road.

We skirted the edge of Alderley Edge.

Before continuing on in the direction of Wilmslow.

Another little climb saw took us up the hill out of the River Bollin valley on Adlington Road.

From Wilmslow, we turned into Woodford Road and headed back to Stockport.

Usually, we turn into Church Lane at Woodford. This time, however, we took a slightly longer route back and continued on towards Poynton.

Just before Poynton, we turned towards Hazel Grove.

Finally, we arrived back home.

As usual, we had enjoyed another fabulous few hours of cycling. Our Bollington route today had covered nearly 27 miles.
