Big Stockport Cycle in Reverse
Back in August Stockport Community Cycling Club assisted with the marshalling of the Big Stockport Cycle. The route proved a popular one, so why not the same ride – but in reverse? The idea for the Big Stockport Cycle in Reverse had begun …
Beginning at the Pyramid near Stockport Town Centre the route began by cycling over the top of the centre via Heaton Norris.
Next we made our way through the town centre, up past St Mary’s Parish Church and the market, and crossed St Mary’s Way.
We then went through Woodbank Park.
We then weaved our way through Offerton and Hazel Grove.
Through Torkington Park.
On to the Middlewood Way.
Down to the new Chadkirk Bridge.
We took a coffee break at Marple Garden Centre.
After a welcome break we visited the recently opened Stockport Hydro which was nearby at Otterspool Weir on the River Goyt. These are two community owned Archimedes Screws generating energy for local homes.
Next the route took us past Goyt Hall.
The path eventually brought us out at Bredbury where a puncture and bike mudguard repair needed to be made. This took longer than might have been expected due to losing a nut on Andy S’s bike. Only it wasn’t lost we found out after awhile, it was still attached to the mudguard! Oh dear!
Next we made our way over to Brinnington and in to Reddish Vale Country Park.
By the time we finished the ride we had covered 22 miles and the route had passed most of Stockport’s landmarks.
