Back on the Bike – The First Cycle Ride Following the Hip Op
It has been three months since I have been on a bike following my cycle crash and following operation. So it was with trepidation, but also a sense of excitement, that I got back on the bike and set off to meet Andy, Andy and Neil for a short cycle ride. Sadly, Sarah wasn’t feeling too good so sadly wasn’t up to joining us. Of course, it also meant we were therefore one photographer short for the blog post!
We began by weaving our way through Bramhall.
It was a chilly morning when we set off, and initially, the weather worsened when it started to rain.
A little further on we joined the A555, the Airport Relief Road.
After leaving the relief road we headed towards Poynton and turned into Towers Road.
We continued on up towards Higher Poynton. For my first cycle ride in ages, the short, slow and steady climb was just about fine.
Next, we entered Adlington.
Here there was a second, and more difficult, climb. Thankfully, the legs were still working ok.
We passed the Miners Arms.
At the end of Wood Lane North, the path disappeared.
There was, however, an entrance up to the Middlewood Way.
However, almost as quickly as we joined the Middlewood Way we left it and continued on our way through Higher Poynton.
Next, we turned towards Norbury Hollow junction.
There was a moment on the downhill section when the jitters set in. It was on a similar type of downhill section that I had crashed in Bollington back in September. Thankfully, my nerves just about held up.
After coming out of the hollow, we picked up Buxton Road and headed back towards Hazel Grove.
For the final part of the cycle ride, we weaved our way through the back streets of Hazel Grove.
We passed Jim and Barbara’s home and decided to give them a quick call.
We had only cycled 16 miles today, but it had been a fantastic re-introduction to my bike. The weather had been mixed but getting out on the bike and cycling with my friends agacin had been fantastic.
