Ayrshire Alps – Day 4 : The Byne
This cycle ride was the last of our Ayrshire Alps trip (click to view the previous Blackies Brae, Nic o’ Balloch and The Screws posts). At the last minute, we decided to go the opposite way round to that which we had originally planned. This meant we would cycle down the Byne rather than up it.
So it was, we packed our stuff in the vehicles ready for setting off home after a fabulous few days stay at Woodland Bay Hotel. First, however, there was a cycle ride to enjoy.
We set off along the coast road back to Girvan. It was a lovely sunny morning.
Then along the edge of Girvan.
Before turning on to the B734.
Just after Old Dailly, the road direction continues on to Straiton, however, the B734 turns right and straight up and over tough little hill.
And on through the little village of Penkill. Here we
We then followed the valleys tracking Penwhapple Burn and Laigh Assel Burn.
The Assel Valley is listed as one of the easier ‘pistes’ in the cycle park.
It is a stunning valley to cycle through.
At the end of the valley is the village of Pinmore.
This brought us out on to the A714.
There was a steady drop as the A714 followed Bynehill Burn.
It took as past Glendrissaig Reservoir.
Soon the sea came into view.
Then a final drop down The Byne.
Before turning back on to the coast road.
The Byne route had covered about 15 miles. It had been a fabulous little cycle ride to complete our Ayrshire Alps trip.
