Ayrshire Alps – Day 3 : The Screws
The third ride of our mini Ayrshire Alps would include cycling up a local hill known as The Screws.
Sarah was feeling somewhat better today and joined us as we started this cycle ride from Woodlands Bays in Girvan.
We began by following the coast road.
Then turned off on to Coalpots Road.
We followed this road for a couple of miles, before turning on to the B734.
This took us through Old Dailly.
After nine miles of cycling, and a little after Dailly, we turned right and towards our first climb of the day, up Hadyard Hill.
It was a couple of miles to the top, and eventually we made it.
Then it was a nice steady downhill for the lads.
Next, we turned right towards the village of Barr.
We stopped at our new favourite cafe, Barr Community Store & Cafe.
Our welcome was as warm as the previous time we had visited.
Then on to a refreshment stop at the nearby community centre.
Back on the road, we began our climb of The Screws.
Sarah and I took a short breather at the entrance to Stinchar Valley.
Then it was back down towards Old Dailly.
At Old Dailly, we retraced our outward route along the B734.
And back through Girvan.
Today, our cycle ride, including a climb up The Screws, had covered 25 miles.
