Anglo-Scottish Border Itinerary
This Anglo-Scottish Border Itinerary outlines our main summer tour for 2023. It is, as usual, our annual group cycle tour with some of our friends from Stockport Community Cycling Club. This year the team will be Andy P, Sarah, Andy S, Andy S, Neil, Tracey and Dave. This will be our twelfth summer tour. Yet again it promises to be something special!
Anglo-Scottish border region is often considered to be a hidden gem when it comes to cycle touring on the British mainland. From the rolling hills and moorland in the west to the gentle valleys and picturesque coastline in the east. There are stately homes, haunting castles and magnificent abbeys that are a testament to the rich and occasionally turbulent history of the region.
For our cycle tour, we start from Carlisle and then head up to Gretna. We cross into Scotland and visit Newcastleton. From there we cycle through the silk town of Hawick and on up to Selkirk, the first of the four abbeys. After visiting the four abbeys we continue to follow the border across to the east coast where we hop on to Holy Island and visit Lindisfarne. Our tour finishes with us cycling up to Berwick-upon-Tweed
