A Windy Cycle Ride to Culcheth and Croft
The Stockport Community Cycling Club ride to Croft via Culcheth is now a well established ride on the clubs cycling calendar. We published a blog post about a previous edition of this ride a couple of years ago for instance. This year Sarah led the ride and Julia was the back-leader.
Just nine Stockport Community Cycling Club members turned out today, perhaps put off by the weather forecast of wind and rain. And the ride wouldn’t disappoint!.
As usual the ride started from outside St Mark’s Church, Dunham Town.
The ride begins by heading in the direction of Redhouse Farm, Dunham Massey before turning towards Warburton.
Then we cycled over Warburton Bridge.
From here we fought the wind as we headed through Glazebrook.
And on to Culcheth. We had a long rest on the towns outskirts. We weren’t too far now from lunch stop, but it was only just after 11.15am. We would be arriving too early!
We were becoming cold so we set off again …but slooowly!
We still arrived a little early …however that was ok.
These days the ride is misleadingly titled for lunch was taken at The General Elliot in Croft. Here we are always assured a warm welcome and though there is nothing gluten-free specific there are salads and baked potatoes. All reasonably priced and tasty.
After lunch it was back in to the headwind …
Thankfully this wasn’t for long and as we turned towards Locking Stumps and Birchwood suddenly the wind was behind us.
We practically flew back to Dunham Massey!
However just before we arrived back at the start there was a sudden downpour.
In all, we had cycled nearly 26 miles. A big thanks to Sarah and Julia for leading us round.
With Sarah and I also cycling to the start and back home this meant in total we had cycled double that distance for the day. Since Sarah has been a bit under the weather recently (pardon the pun!) this was a good full day of exercise for her!
