A Sunday Cycle Ride out to Jodrell Bank and Siddington
In these times of coronavirus lockdown, the importance of being able to get out and enjoy some daily exercise cannot be underestimated for Sarah and I. Such moments help take our mind off these tough times, even if just for a short while. This time we decided to head out into Cheshire on our bikes and take in the lanes around Jodrell Bank and Siddington.
It was a fine day for cycling.
Of course, to get out into Cheshire we had a few urban cycle miles to cover first.
So, we headed out via Cheadle Hulme and Handforth.
And then on towards Wilmslow.
After reaching Wilmslow we turned towards Chorley.
Eventually, we turned into Warford Lane and left the urban roads.
Turning into Mill Lane we cycled through Little Warford and Marthall.
Sarah spotted these interesting ‘animals’ in someones garden.
Next, we continued on through the Peovers.
We dropped down past the old Bate Mill.
Before climbing up the other side of Batemill Lane.
This brought us out near Jodrell Bank Observatory.
However, at this point, we turned away from Jodrell Bank and made our way through Withington Green on our way to Siddington.
Next, we passed Siddington village hall and turned into Salters Lane.
We briefly joined the A34.
Before turning off and passing Redesmere Reservoir.
After which, we began a steady climb up Redesmere Lane, which in turn joined Fanshawe Lane.
This is a spectacular little lane with some lovely scenery, and there were lots of cyclists using it.
Soon after crossing Chelford Road into Birtles Lane, we passed this handsome bird of prey …
Our journey continued as we made our way up Birtles Lane.
From there we made our way back down towards Mottram St Andrews.
Before leaving the country lanes and returning to Stockport.
Thankfully, we did still have a few quiet lanes left to cycle through.
Our final climb of the day was the one we use for ‘hill repeats’ when running, Hillcrest Road.
This had been yet another fabulous cycle ride. We had enjoyed fine weather and some excellent scenery, and it had made for a lovely relaxing cycle ride. Cycling can do that – relax you and refresh your mind. I am really enjoying my cycling at the moment!
