Wythenshawe
This Stockport Community Cycling Club ride started from Davenport Rail station car park. This particular route was put together by Tracey who led the first group. Sarah and I were leading the second group, Sarah was the ride leader and I was the back-leader.
It was a damp Saturday morning as we all gathered, Autumn was arriving fast.
Our route began by turning into Sterndale Road and cycling out through Adswood towards Edgeley.
In Edgeley, we cycled up St Petersburg Road then cut off towards St Lesmo Road.
At the bottom of Edgeley we crossed over Stockport Road and dropped down to the River Mersey. Then, after crossing the River Mersey we joined the Trans Pennine Trail, NCN Route 62, and made our way towards Heaton Mersey.
Leaving the river path at Burnage, we continued to follow NCN Route 62 as it weaved its way through Didsbury.
We crossed the River Mersey again further up in Didsbury.
As the rain came down stronger we cycled through Northenden.
At Northenden, we crossed under the M60 as we turned towards Wythenshawe.
In doing so we began following local cycle route 85.
This eventually brought us to Wythenshawe Park.
We decided to take a short break sheltered under a tree … or at least, most of us did …
Back on our bikes again, we passed Wythenshawe Hall, still being renovated.
By now it was raining fairly solid. Still, we continued on and cycled through Baguley.
Before following the cycle path alongside the tram tracks through Woodhouse Park.
We left the cycle path alongside the tram at Greenwood Road and headed towards the centre of Wythenshawe.
Finally, the rain was abating.
After Wythenshawe we arrived on the edge of Heald Green.
Again, we weaved our way through the back streets, now NCN Route 558, the Airport Orbital Cycleway.
This eventually brought us out at Kingsway.
Then, after cycling under Kingsway, we headed towards Cheadle.
Through Brookfields Park.
Then briefly along Ladybook Cycleway.
Coming towards the end of our ride now, we cycled through Adswood Park.
The path through the park brought us out onto Bird Hall Road.
From here we made our way through Bridgehall.
A few more turns and we were back cycling along Sterndale Road.
This urban route had covered 17 miles. It might have been wet, but thankfully, the route had been interesting enough to have provided an enjoyable cycle ride.
