This was a weekend away to celebrate Sarah’s birthday. And we began with a Parkrun and a visit to Tredegar House.

We were staying at Pentre Bach on the edge of Merthyr Tydfil. This wasn’t too far from the town of Tredegar, and there is a Parkrun there. We decided to join in.

Bryn Bach Parkrun takes place in the stunning surroundings of Parc Bryn Bach. And at over 1000 feet above sea level it was certainly the highest Parkrun we had participated in

The run itself was a couple of times around the lake. Straightforward it may seem like, but the weather and the wind made for challenging conditions.

After the Parkrun we ran another few circuits of the lake to complete our training schedule requirements.

Having showered and changed our wet clothes we headed off to Tredegar House, which is actually on the edge of Newport! Sarah and I had already briefly visited the grounds on our recent Celtic Trail tour.

We began with a walk around the Orchard Garden, Cedar Garden …

… and Orangery. These were some of the most important eighteenth century landscapes in Wales.

And then just as it was starting to rain again we entered the house.

Tredegar House was the home for 500 years of the Morgan’s, a house designed to impress. The Morgan’s were an influential family in the development of Newport.

It was certainly a house of flamboyance.

  

  

After leaving the house we took a short wander around the parkland.

And of course, just as we were finishing our walk the next rain shower came along. Nonetheless, Tredegar House had provided for a relaxing and enjoyable visit. A place well worth visiting.
