TPT Day 4 – High Melton to Howden
TPT Day 4 from High Melton to Howden promised to be a less strenuous than yesterday’s exertions over the Pennines.
Having been woken early by a fire alarm and still feeling the fatigue in the legs from yesterday the ride mercifully began by dropping down through High Melton and back to Denby Ings Nature Reserve.
Soon we picked up the River Don and followed this to Sprotbrough.
We turned away from the river and cycled towards Bentley and then on to Braithwaite.
Here we found the quirky Threeways cafe, a great little quick stop for cyclists on the TPT.
After refreshments we joined the New Junction canal.
Before turning off for Sykehouse.
From here we weaved our way towards Snaith.
In Snaith we found a great little cafe, Kitchen.
Back on the road we cycled on towards Selby.
This included cycling across an old airstrip.
Then it was back on to another path alongside a canal – this one, the Selby Canal.
And here we started along a different NCN Route, the 65.
We briefly took a detour to have a look at the Abbey.
There were now only another 10 miles to cycle. These proved tougher than expected however as they were directly in to a strong headwind.
And there was the local rush hour traffic to contend with …
Finally we arrived at Howden.
We had cycled nearly 52 miles. Tonight we are staying at The Bowman Hotel.
