TPT Day 3 – Stockport to High Melton
Wednesday was our TPT Day 3 – Stockport to High Melton. We set off from home and cycled back to where the TPT enters Reddish Vale, where we left it yesterday.
The first section was very familiar to us.
From there we headed up through Haughton Dale then on towards Godley.
We went through Hattersley
We stopped off in Hadfield for a coffee.
Our route then took us to the Longdendale Trail and on towards the Woodhead Tunnels.
We then made our way us and over the Woodhead Pass (using some of the Pennine Cycleway). Some of the climbs were so steep and rough that we struggled to push our bikes up!
We had to cross the Woodhead Pass three times! A little further on and we parted ways with the Pennine Cycleway. At Dunford Bridge, we stopped for a late lunch – after completing the majority of the climbing for the day.
The route then took us along a number of disused railway lines.
We took a detour off the trail at Bolton upon Dearne to get some supplies for the local shop.
Having got supplies for the next day, we continued on to where we were staying for the night at High Melton (at Doncaster University campus).
We had a very nice evening meal there in the bar.
Today we cycled 58 miles, of which 54 of those were progress along the TPT. We have climbed about 3000 feet today.
