Tour De Stockport 2022
Ahead of the ‘Grand Depart’ in France later this week, Stockport Community Cycling Club members met upon a fine Saturday morning in Woodsmoor for this Tour De Stockport 2022 cycle ride.
I was leading the first group, while Sarah joined the second group. For this blog post, therefore, we have combined the photos from the two groups.
Setting off, we began by navigating our way through Woodsmoor and Bramhall.
Soon we arrived at Bramhall Park.
After cycling through the park, we crossed over into Carr Wood and followed the trail.
At the other end, we squeezed our way through the gate.
From Bramhall, after turning on to Ack Lane East, our next destination would be Cheadle Hulme.
Here, we picked up the Bruntwood Lane path.
Our next port of call was Cheadle, and here we cycled through Brookfield Park.
Our tour next passed through Edgeley.
Before dropping down towards the River Mersey at Cheadle Heath.
We followed the river for a short while, cycling along NCN Route 62.
Leaving the river, we then worked our way around the M60 roundabout above the motorway.
Still following a section of NCN Route 62, this was followed by a climb up Higher Bury Street.
Then, after gathering our breath, we crossed the A6 and headed for Heaton Norris Park. We took a short break here.
Refreshed, we now dropped back down to Stockport’s rivers, the confluence of the Mersey, Tame and Goyt.
Followed by a little climb back up to the River Mersey.
Next, we headed for Woodbank Park.
Then weaved our way through Offerton.
And on to Hazel Grove.
We finished off with a little pootle around Mirrlees Fields.
We cycled nearly 18 miles today. Our tour hadn’t been at the pace of the famous race, but that was ok. Instead, we had enjoyed a gentle tour around the town centre and its surrounding area and been through a few places some of our members hadn’t visited before.
