The 2015 SCCC Ride to Lymm
Saturday was the SCCC ride to Lymm which was lead by the gorgeous Gill. It was a ride that I have not done before. It started from the TPT (Trans Pennine Trail) car park at the end of Atlantic Street, Broadheath, Altrincham. It was a lovely hot sunny day. We headed out through Dunham towards Warburton.
Along the way, John (our back leader for the day), had a puncture. We had to wait on a quite lane, next to a field of wheat in the glorious sunshine – such hardship! Waiting in the sunshine surrounded by ripe wheat fields was certainly a pleasant place to wait.
Once the puncture had been fixed, we set off again and made our way to Lymm for a coffee break.
We split up into informal groups, as there were 20 of us and the cafe’s around the village were not really large enough to cater for us all. A group of us went to The Terrace and have a lovely break there. Andy and I had an omelette as we had cycled to the start of the ride and would have to cycle home again afterwards.
After a break of about an hour, we met up again and then set off to make our way back, using a different route, towards Broadheath.
We went past the Swan with Two Nicks and across the narrow little bridge across the River Bollin.
Passing past the Dunham Massey Estate before heading back to the start point.
The club ride was about 18 miles but overall Andy and I had cycled 41 miles by the time we got home again. Certainly a good training ride before the next weekend club ride, which will be much longer – That ride goes from Gatley to Halton Castle and then back again – a ride of about 50 miles on Sunday (watch for the blog about that soon).
