Anderton Boat Lift

Anderton Boat Lift

Finally it seemed as if traces of Spring are just around the corner as Stockport Community Cycling Club enjoyed a 35 mile ride around Cheshire to Anderton Boat List. Starting from Wilmslow Leisure Centre we headed out through Ollerton, Lach Dennis and Rudheath. We skirted the edge of Northwich and weaved (appropriate since we were next to the River Weaver) our way through Neumann’s Flashes which forms part of Marbury Country Park.       Lunch was at the café at Anderton…

To Whaley Bridge – The Hilly Way

To Whaley Bridge – The Hilly Way

There are a number of ways to get to Whaley Bridge from Hazel Grove.  Straight up the A6 is a bit of a long slog, but not too bad. Peeling off the A6 at High Lane and using the canal cuts down the slog but is a bit circuitous. It is however flat. Neither of these however get the muscles and heart working for long. Scholar Green – Bleeding Good Ride!

Scholar Green – Bleeding Good Ride!

Sunday was an SCCC eXtra ride to Scholar Green, which was being led by Andy. The ride started at Wilmslow Leisure Centre. It was a cool start and as we cycled to the start of the ride, we found that there was also a head wind. We headed out through Marthall to Goostrey. Then headed out to Swettenham,  although the ford their looked deep – none where brave enough to try it! The ride went on through Arclid,  Fourlanes End,…

Middlewood Way

Middlewood Way

The latest Stockport Community Cycling Club ride saw us off along the Middlewood Way on an overcast and quite cold day. The Middlewood Way is an old railway line between Marple and Macclesfield.    The first few miles are deceptive since it is a gradual climb to Higher Poynton. Then it is on to Bollington. Coffee break was at Tesco in Macclesfield.    The return journey saw us following the Macclesfield Canal. Sadly it was at this point that we also…

Jodrell Bank – Beam Me Up Scotty

Jodrell Bank – Beam Me Up Scotty

Sunday was the Stockport Community Cycling Club Ride out into Cheshire to Redesmere, stopping at Jodrell Bank for lunch. We all met up in Davenport. Oh it was noisy! They were digging up the road with a view to resurfacing it. The sun was out and it looked like being a lovely day, which resulted in a large turnout of 34 riders. We headed out through Bramhall then out towards Mottram St Andrew, Redesmere and on to Jodrell Bank. Just…
