North Coast 500 Day 7 – Achmelvich to Kylesku

North Coast 500 Day 7 – Achmelvich to Kylesku

It had been a challenging day in the hills for North Coast 500 Day 6 and North Coast 500 Day 7 promised more. That … and, of course, the obligatory strong winds. We left Achmelvich Beach Youth Hostel and began by taking one quick last look at Achmelvich Beach. Then we headed back on the road we had arrived on. Before rejoining the B869, and another section of the ‘Wee Mad Road’. Into the hills, we went, cycling by Loch…

North Coast 500 Day 6 – Ullapool to Achmelvich

North Coast 500 Day 6 – Ullapool to Achmelvich

While North Coast Day 5 had been a wet one, amazingly North Coast 500 Day 6 began dry. We were going to cycle from Ullapool to Achmelvich. First things first though … unlock the bikes. For that, you needed a key, and unfortunately, we couldn’t find it. In the end, we had to cut the lock and then buy another! Finally, we were able to leave Ullapool Youth Hostel. We had another hilly day ahead of us. However, we hadn’t…

Leaving Wilma’s Guesthouse we began by cycling alongside Little Loch Broom, we set off in the rain. Then cycled…

North Coast 500 Day 4 – Gairloch to Dundonnell

After nearly giving up at the end of North Coast 500 Day 3, I decided to keep going on North Coast 500 Day 4 on a mile-by-mile approach. The route, Gairloch to Dundonnell, was much shorter than the previous day, so hopefully that would help. Of course … it was still wet and windy! After leaving the Millcroft Hotel and briefly cycling along the coast, our journey began by climbing away from the sea along the A892 in the direction…

North Coast 500 Day 3 – Applecross to Gairloch

North Coast 500 Day 3 – Applecross to Gairloch

North Coast 500 Day 2 had been a challenge, with wind and rain having a major effect. Overnight, we saw more rain, but thankfully, once for North Coast 500 Day 3 it began dry. Today we would be cycling from Applecross to Shieldaig and on to Gairloch. It would be one of our longer days of cycling. We left Applecross Campsite and began our day by dropping down to the Applecross hamlet by the coast. Then cycled around the headland….
