Anglo-Scottish Border Day 5 – Beal to Berwick-upon-Tweed

Anglo-Scottish Border Day 5 – Beal to Berwick-upon-Tweed

We had finished Anglo-Scottish Border Day 4 at Beal. Anglo-Scottish Day 5 would be our final day of cycling. Our aim was to pop over to Holy Island before cycling up the Northumberland coast and finishing at Berwick-upon-Tweed. We left Lindisfarne Inn at Beal on a fine cloudy morning. We began by cycling down to the causeway which would take us over to Holy Island. The road to Lindisfarne is roughly five miles long and we were fortunate today that…

Scottish Borders Day 4 – Kelso to Berwick-Upon-Tweed

Scottish Borders Day 4 was the final day of our coast-to-coast cycle ride. We started the day in Kelso. We were staying at Duncan House. After a leisurely and enjoyable breakfast, we set off in the direction of Floors Castle. It was an overcast morning, windy, and with the promise of some light showers. We soon joined NCN Route 1. This section of Route 1 we have cycled previously, in the opposite direction, on the Coast and Castles South tour. This…

Scottish Borders Coast-to-Coast Itinerary

Scottish Borders Coast-to-Coast Itinerary

This Scottish Borders Coast-to-Coast Itinerary outlines the cycle route Sarah and I will be following in early Autumn. We will be cycling from Gretna to Berwick-Upon-Tweed, all the while hugging the Scotland-England border, mainly on the Scottish side.  Mention the Scottish Borders and we picture big spaces: heather-clad hills, hundreds of square miles of forests and woodland, lochs and rivers. Of course, wherever trees and hills abound, then cyclists and mountain bikers won‘t be far away; some of the best cycling…
