SCCC Salt Line 2015
Today’s SCCC Salt Line 2015 ride started from the Salt Line car park, which is near Hassall Green in Cheshire. There was a group of 11 of us which met up for today’s very enjoyable ride, which was being led by Jim.
The car park is also the start of the Solar System Trail, beginning of course with the sun. I guess that makes the car park a place where you can guarantee the sun being there no matter what time of year it is!
The ride started up hill and over the top of the canal and passed through Hassal Green.
We headed down onto the canal at Malkins Bank very briefly before turning off onto a path that ran parallel for a while.
We joined and followed the Wheelock Rail Trail.
As we reached the end of the Wheelock Rail Trail, there was a place with some amazing garden things, such as the ostrich below as well as a giraffe!
Jim lead us through some lovely country lanes.
After 12 miles, we stopped for a break at The Holly Bush Inn in Winterley, where we enjoyed some good food and were really well looked after by the staff.
After being suitably refreshed, we continued on our ride, making our way back to the starting point.
Getting on the Salt Line, we managed without getting lost in a rabbit hole!
As we went down the Salt Line, we did pass the markers identifying the planets in the solar system as we made our way back to the sun, which was in the car park where we started.
It was a very enjoyable ride of about 18 miles.
