SCCC Irwell Valley Ride 2016
Saturday 30th April was the SCCC Irwell Valley Ride 2016 which started from Elton Sailing Club in Bury.
We set off along a cycle path heading into the edge of Bury
Through the edge of a housing estate
We soon picked up a path which was a little more scenic.
We then continued along the roads to Heaton Park.
We stopped at The Stables Cafe in Heaton Park for some refreshments.
After a break we cycled through Heaton Park, passing the edge of the Gung Ho fun run event that was taking place that day – there were some interesting blow up obstacles for them to get through!
Leaving the park we then made our way through St Marys Park and then St Marys Flower Park.
The route then took us through Drinkwater park and then on to Phillips Park.
We crossed over the M60 again (using the bridge of course!)
We then made our way onto the Outwood Trail
As it started to hail, we stopped to shelter for a while under the bridge.
We had to stop for a while as Andy P’s chain had got jammed.
Once he had finally fixed his bike, we were underway again, continuing along the Outwood Trail.
We picked up the Manchester, Boulton & Bury Canal for a short while.
We then dropped back down to Elton Reservoir and Elton Sailing Club where we started.
You can view out route below. We had cycled about 16 miles and had a real mixture of weather – sunshine and also wintery showers and hail! We all found it an enjoyable ride which took us through a real variety of places.
