Rowarth Walk
This Rowarth walk continued the preparations Sarah, Neil and Nicholl have been making for their St Cuthbert’s Way walking tour.
It was a cool evening when we met just outside Rowarth.
We set off down Hollinsmoor Road towards The Little Mill Inn.
Then turned into Brookside.
At the end of the lane, we picked up a path that took us up towards the end of Rowarth village.
At Chapel Street, we picked up a path on the right that followed Rowarth brook as it wound its way through Rowarth wood.
At the end of the wood, we crossed the brook, left the valley, and made our way up a cobbled track.
At the top end of the track was a tarmac path that took us up towards Matley Moor.
Further up the hill, we turned off on to a section of the Pennine Bridleway.
There were some glorious views up here.
Further along the path, we joined Lanehead Road.
As Lanehead Road sharply turned left, we instead took a right-turn through a gate. Leaving the Pennine Bridleway we walked up a rocky lane along the side of the hill heading back to Rowarth.
It was getting to the stage where the sun was dropping behind the horizon. The colours over the hills were fabulous.
We dropped down the side of the valley following a track hugging the hillside.
The track then dropped sharply into a gulley.
At the end of the track was Laneside Road. Following this took us back to the start of our walk.
Today, we walked approximately 3.5 miles. We had once again enjoyed some fantastic scenery along the way. Of course, the company had been great too. So, all-in-all it had made for a wonderful little walk.
