RHS Garden Bridgewater
As part of Sarah’s birthday celebrations, Sarah and I visited the recently opened RHS Garden Bridgewater.
The garden is situated just off the Bridgewater Canal in Worsley.
You begin by entering the Worsley Welcome Garden.
We then began by exploring the Weston Walled Garden. This was once one of the largest Victorian walled gardens in the UK.
RHS Garden Bridgewater is built on the vast estate of the former Worsley New Hall, the former home of the Egerton family.
RHS hope eventually to restore and develop much of the former landscaping and historic features.
We popped into the Fruit House and Mediterranean House.
Before moving on to the Paradise Garden.
Worsley New Hall was known for its magnificent gardens which were landscaped over a 50-year period during the 1800s. It contained sloping grounds, a formal terraced garden and ornate fountains.
So, after the walled garden we visited the potting shed.
From there we ventured out into Middle Wood.
Then passed the far edge of Ellesmere Lake.
In its heyday this was a boating and fishing lake.
After passing the other side of Ellesmere Lake we reached the Chinese Streamside Garden.
Which was the final area on our visit.
Then it was time for a cuppa …
RHS Garden Bridgewater had been a lovely place to visit. It had been a bit too busy for my liking, but enjoyable nonetheless. It will also be interesting to return at some point and see how the gardens have developed.
