Reivers Route Day 1 – Newcastle to Tynemouth to Seaton Burn
Reivers Route Day 1 couldn’t arrive quick enough for Sarah and I. We were both ready for our first summer break of the year!
Setting off early on a Monday morning it was glorious sunshine as we made our way to Stockport Station.
A couple of changes later and we met up with our friend Andy S in Newcastle around noon.
Newcastle to Tynemouth – Cycling to the start of the Reivers Route
Soon we were on our way to the start, picking up the path along the River Tyne. We had followed this path before on our Coast & Castles South, Hadrian’s Cycleway and Sea-to-Sea (C2C) tours.
Soon we were at the Cycle Hub, home of Skedaddle, and it was time for lunch. There were some splendid vegetarian options.
After lunch we continued on our along NCN 72.
Through Wallsend and North Shields.
And on to Tynemouth.
Below is our route to Tynemouth:

Reivers Route – Tynemouth to Seaton Burn
Eventually we arrived at the start of the Reivers Route (and also the start/finish of Coast & Castles South, Hadrian’s Cycleway and Sea-to-Sea (C2C)).
After the photo we were on our way. The first few miles retraced our steps back along Hadrian’s Cycleway.
Soon however we were in new territory as we headed towards Shiremoor.
We picked up the Waggonway and followed this for most of the way.
We skirted around Killingworth.
And then took a detour as we climbed the hill at Westslade Country Park.
Eventually we arrived at Seaton Burn Travelodge where we are staying for the night.
A quick shower and we are off to find something to eat.
For our Reivers Route Day 1 we cycled getting on towards thirty miles in total this afternoon. A great start for what promises to be an interesting tour.
