Pre Celtic Trail
Due to the engineering works on the train line, there were to be no weekend trains but a replacement bus service. Unfortunately we could not take our bikes on the replacement buses and so had to find an alternative way of getting to the start. Three of us got the train to Haverfordwest on Friday (as there were trains running that day). The others were coming in crew van on the Saturday. This blog post is covering our Pre Celtic Trail adventures before we met up with the others.
Andy and I left Stockport at 8:39 on Friday and Andy S left 2 hours later.
This means we had to wait 2 hours for Andy to arrive. We went into town and had coffee at Costa.
The river seemed to run right through the middle of town.
As we could see the castle whilst we were having our coffee, we decided to go and have a look. After a couple of failed attempts to get there (due to steps up), we found a way there.
There were some great views from the castle.
We made our way back to Haverfordwest Train Station to wait for Andy S.
When Andy arrived we went back to Costa as Andy S wanted something to eat. Feeling suitably refreshed, we set off for Broad Haven Youth Hostel, where we were going to stay for the night.
Part of the route that we took was actually NCN 4 which we will be doing again in a few days time.
Having checked in a Broad Haven Youth Hostel, we walked down to the beach and found the local shop, where we bought some groceries to cook our tea with.
The Youth Hostel was a lovely place and each of the bedrooms had individual doors.
We had cycled about 7 miles in total. You can view our route from Haverfordwest to Broad Haven below:

On Saturday morning we left Broad Haven and retraced our route back into Haverfordwest. There was no rush to our day as we were not meeting the others until late afternoon.
Having had more coffee, we set off towards Spittal where we staying for the night.
We stopped at Scolton Manor briefly where we spotted a steam train.
From there we took a detour to look at a reservoir. This was a typical Andy S route in that it was a little hilly!
Finally we arrived at the reservoir.
After some cheesy chips (which didn’t agree with me), we set off for Spittal.
Having checked in, we waited for the arrival of the rest of the group.
Today we had cycled about 24 miles. You can view our Pre Celtic Trail route from Broad Haven to Spittal below:
