Poynton
It was a cold Saturday morning that greeted the first group of Stockport Community Cycling Club riders arriving at Woodsmoor for this cycle ride out to Poynton. This ride had already been called off once due to inclement weather, and the forecast for today wasn’t great. Indeed, a few cyclists had already decided to stay at home. Sarah too, though arriving at the start, turned around and went home feeling extremely tired.
We set off through Woodsmoor and over the railway line. Graham was leading the ride today, while Leslie was the back-leader.
From Woodsmoor we made our way through Bramhall.
Then down the Ladybrook Cycleway.
And through Brookfields Park.
When we started out it had been dry, but almost immediately it had begun raining. By the time we reached Cheadle Hulme it was now raining hard.
Next, we cycled through Bruntwood Park.
Then on through Heald Green.
We briefly cycled along the A555, the Manchester Airport Link Road.
This took us through Bramhall.
Then on to Poynton.
Here, we left the A555 and headed for the village centre.
However, we turned off before reaching the centre and worked our way around the edge of Poynton instead.
After crossing over the A523 we reached Barnaby Road Play Area. It wasn’t really the weather for playing outside, but we did stop for a short break
After the break, we continued on our journey through Poynton.
This eventually took us up to Higher Poynton.
From Higher Poynton, we dropped down through Norbury Hollow to Middlewood.
Then continued down towards Hazel Grove.
Before finally returning to Woodsmoor.
We were all glad to reach the finish. By now, we were cold and wet.
That said, this had been an interesting route, and in spite of the poor weather, we were glad to have been out cycling.
