Post TPT – SCCC Club Weekend in Scarborough
Sarah and I had enjoyed a successful Trans Pennine Tour (TPT). Yesterday we cycled from Hull over to Scarborough and joined up with our Stockport Community Cycling Club (SCCC) colleagues for the club’s annual weekend.
We had already given you a sneek peek of this ride but on that occasion we started part way round the ride. Today, on a bright Sunday morning we left the university campus where we had been staying on the outskirts of Scarborough and headed for Osgodby.
Soon we were arriving in Filey.
Where we dropped down to the coast road. Last time we visited Filey we dropped in half way round, the sea was in and frankly there wasn’t much to see. This time was different. The golden expanse of sand made it a lovely cycle along the seafront.
We left the coastline and cycled through a golf course. And then alongside a caravan park towards Muston.
Soon after was our first proper climb, up to Hunmanby.
From here we followed country lanes. At one point we were almost swamped by the peloton of a local cycle race. A few club members were tempted to join them all the the way to the finish! Those that were left continued through a mini valley to Fordon. After this there was another climb before a steep descent down Flixton Hill.
At the bottom of the descent we turned towards Folkton.
And then cycled to Cayton where we turned off for lunch at the Stained Glass Centre.
Once again they provided us with some excellent food at a very reasonable price.
Then it was back on the road through Eastfield, Crossgates, Seamer and Irton.
We turned off at East Ayton.
We followed the River Derwent for a while in the North York Moors.
We took a brief break at Throxenby Mere.
Eventually we returned to Scarborough and dropped down to north promenade.
We cycled around Marine Drive to the south promenade.
It was time for ice-cream!
Then one final sting in the tail …a final climb (because the only way out of Scarborough is up a hill!).
Along South Cliff Esplanade.
And back to the campus.
Today’s cycle ride had been a very enjoyable tour around the Scarborough area of 39 miles. You can the SCCC club weekend ride around Scarborough below:
