Autumn has finally arrived weather-wise. So it was on a cool but bright Sunday morning that seventeen hardy Stockport Community Cycling Club riders met at Davenport Green for our longer Peover Heath Autumn ride out around the Cheshire lanes. This is a ride we usually undertake in the spring – Peover Heath – so it would be interesting to cover the route in a different season.

Julia was leading the ride today, and she led us out through the streets of Bramhall.

  

And then through Woodford and Handforth Green.

  

From here we touched the edge of Styal and cycled on to Wilmslow.

Unfortunately one of our riders suffered a puncture.

It wasn’t helped when the replacement inner-tube went with a ‘bang’ too.

Eventually we were all back on the road and cycling through Mobberley.

From here we picked up Mobberley Road and followed it to Knutsford.

We turned off and made our way through the Moor.

Next we made our way through Tabley and towards Pickmere.

Then after a brief rest we cycled though Wincham and Lostock Gralam.

We began heading back to the Peovers and picked up Long Lane.

Eventually we reached Peover Heath. Here we stopped for lunch at the Old Park Gate Inn. This was the pub that was closed three days after we had recced it and booked ourselves in! Thankfully things seem to have calmed down now and the owners have welcomed us on the last couple of visits. The food is always served quickly, and it is tasty and hearty.

After lunch we set off for home initially by cycling through Marthall and Great Warford.

We then headed on to Alderley Edge.

And then Wilmslow

The final section of the ride took us through Woodford and back through Bramhall.

  

By the time we had arrived back at Davenport Green we had completed 45 miles. This had proved another fine Autumn ride.
