Pennine Cycleway Day 1 – Berwick-Upon-Tweed to Wooler
Pennine Cycleway – Day 1. Five of us travelled up to Berwick on Friday and the remaining two members of the team arrived this morning. Yesterday afternoon was rather wet at times! We stayed at Berwick Youth Hostel, which was very pleasant.
This morning was spent wandering around Berwick whilst we waited for Tracey and Neil to arrive. We looked around the town, the ramparts and the lighthouse.
We even got to see a grey seal out swimming as well as quite a lot of swans. When the others arrived we had lunch at the Youth Hostel and then set off.
Most of us had done part of the beginning of the route when we did the Coast and Castle route last year. We went into Scotland and the back into England via the chain bridge.
We stopped to look at Norham Castle as a couple of the team hadn’t see it before.
We cycled on to Heatherslaw Mill where we stopped for ice cream.
They we flying the Northumberland flag there.
We cycled on to Wooler where we we staying tonight. Our accommodation tonight was a couple of very nice B&B’s.
We cycled 30.89 miles (climbing 1700 feet) in great weather.
