Middlewich – Back in the Saddle Again
Finally, after what seemed an eternity, for Sarah a ride to Middlewich on Sunday afternoon represented the opportunity to get back in the saddle again following her broken foot (which had happened just before the club ride to Middlewich strangely enough!). Of course the broken foot had happened at the worst possible time since it meant she had been unable to cycle on our epic John o’Groats to Land’s End tour.
The Stockport Community Cycling Club ride this weekend had been a long ride to Betley and this was just a bit too much for a ride in which to get ‘back in the saddle again’.
Our ride began from Plumley Rail station from where we began by heading for Lach Dennis.
Then we made our way to Davenham.
We then cycled through Winsford where we briefly picked up NCN Route 5 and the Weaver Way.
Soon we were cycling along the Shropshire Union canal through Middlewich.
Leaving Middlewich we turned towards Byley and then Cranage.
By now it was late afternoon and we had reached Goostrey. We decided to have lunch at the Crown Hotel.
The food was quite expensive and sadly there was no gluten-free option. That said put something together for Sarah and both of us agreed that the offering was tasty. The staff were helpful and welcoming too.
After lunch we cycled through Blackden.
And past Jodrell Bank.
We then turned towards the Peover’s.
We weaved our way through to Lower Peover where we passed the ‘Tree of Imagination’.
Finally we returned to Plumley. We had cycled nearly 30 miles. We had both enjoyed the afternoon. For Sarah it had the added bonus of being a ‘release’ of energy and being able to be ‘back in the saddle again’. She was extremely pleased to have successfully finished the ride without any aches and pains.
