Market Weighton – SCCC Hull Club Weekend Longer Ride Sneek-Peek

Market Weighton – SCCC Hull Club Weekend Longer Ride Sneek-Peek

Our second day in Hull saw us recceing what will be the Stockport Community Cycling Club Weekend Sunday longer ride. We had devised a route to the market town of Market Weighton.

We cycled to the start of the ride at Hull University. The sun was beating down and the temperature was nudging 30 degrees.

We set off on our route heading out through Cottingham. Actually, we took a wrong turn, and for this section found ourselves following what should have been the return route.

The next village along was Skidby.

From there we picked up a National Byway and cycled through Little Weighton on towards Riplingham.

We then turned towards Newbald, where we picked up NCN Route 164.

NCN Route 164 forms the Yorkshire Wolds route. We followed this for a while.

The Yorkshire Wolds route includes some offline sections.

We then turned on to NCN Route 66 which followed a lovely little valley into Market Weighton.

Market Weighton’s claim to fame – the home of UK’s tallest man

Market Weighton is where we will stop for lunch, and we found an excellent little cafe, Snack Shack, whose staff were very helpful. Sarah was pleased, for they also include gluten-free options.

After lunch, we set off towards Goodmanham.

We then rejoined NCN Route 66 as we headed towards Cherry Burton.

Continuing to follow NCN Route 66, we arrived in Beverley.

In the town centre, we took a break to refuel.

Back on our bikes, we cycled past Beverley Minster.

We continued to follow NCN Route 66.

This took us along another excellent off-road section through farm fields.

Finally, we returned through Cottingham again – using what should have been the outward route of course!. This brought us back to Hull University.

Then we cycled back to our hotel to enjoy a well earned ‘perfect pint’. We had cycled 48 miles (though on the day the finalised route will be just under 45 miles).
