Lymm 2020
Lymm 2020 was the latest version of this popular Stockport Community Cycling Club ride (previous Lymm rides can be found here: 2012, 2015, 2016, 2018, and 2019).
Sarah and I had cycled to the start at Atlantic Street on a cold and frosty morning.
Gill was today’s ride leader.
Leaving Atlantic Street car park, we set off down Black Moss Lane and out across Trafford.
We crossed Caldwell Brook.
At St Mark’s Church, we turned in to Back Lane.
We continued to weave our way around the Dunham lanes as we made our way to Warburton.
After Warburton, we turned on to Bent Lane, crossed the River Bollin, and reached the edge of Lymm.
We then turned into Reddish Lane.
Briefly, we followed NCN Route 62 and the Trans Pennine Trail.
Next, we crossed over the Bridgewater Canal and entered Lymm village centre.
In Lymm, the club riders split up and went to various cafes for their coffee breaks. Sarah and I visited The Terrace cafe. We have been here before and always enjoy the food, especially knowing they have gluten-free options.
After the coffee break, the riders set off again, heading out of Lymm up Pepper Street.
After a group photo, we cycled up Longbutt Lane.
The views out over Cheshire and towards Manchester on clear days like today are fabulous.
In fact, we got a long view of the panorama, since one of our club members had to fix a puncture.
Back on our bikes again, we headed down Oughtrington Lane and crossed over the Bridgewater Canal again.
As we cycled towards Agden we had to cross a few ‘lakes’.
A little further on we turned in to Park View and crossed the River Bollin (again) near the Swan with Two Nicks.
This then took us around the edge of Dunham Massey.
Finally, after cycling up Oldfield Lane, we dropped back into Altrincham (of course, after crossing the Bridgewater Canal one last time!)
Our route had covered just over 15 miles. It had been a cold and precarious start to the cycle ride, and Sarah and I considered turning around and going home. However, we are glad we stayed, for this turned out to be another excellent cycle ride.
