Lochs and Glens North Day 4 – Aberfeldy to Calvine
Our Lochs and Glens North Day 4 would see us cycle from Aberfeldy to Calvine. It would be the shortest day of the tour.
First, however, we had some practical matters to attend to – the washing. So, we dropped our stuff off at the laundrette, then went for a coffee at The Watermill Bookshop, Cafe and Gallery and waited.
Stuff collected, it was nearly lunchtime before we crossed over on to the north side of the River Tay and left Aberfeldy.
We rejoined NCN Route 7.
The road followed the River Tay for awhile.
We followed the valley, cycling through Strathtay.
A little further along, we crossed over the River Tay again using the Logierait Bridge. It is the only community-owned railway bridge in the country.
Here we changed direction and headed towards Pitlochry.
This section of the route I have cycled before on the End-to-End (JOGLE), but in the opposite direction.
Once again, the views were fabulous.
At Pitlochry, we entered the town via another bridge spanning the River Tummel.
We stopped for our lunch break at Pitlochry, piling into the locally (and possibly nationally) famous Hettie’s Tearooms.
Sarah had chosen this for it included a good range of gluten-free options.
Refreshed, and (briefly) bathed in the sunshine, we set off along the A824 heading for Killicrankie.
So far on our tour, we had essentially dodged most of the predicted showers.
Now, however, they caught up with us.
We cycled through a soggy Blair Atholl.
Stopping briefly to stock up on snack bars.
Then, just as quickly as the rain had started, it cleared.
This meant we were able to arrive at our destination, The Struan Inn in Calvine, in the sunshine again.
And, making the most of the sunshine, we enjoyed our ‘perfect pint’ sat outside.
Today, we had cycled 28 miles, but still managed to include a few thousand feet of climbing. It had been another fantastic day of cycling.
